Tooth decay is not painful until it is advanced. If you wait until you have pain to see a dentist to get your teeth checked, you may pay up to 10 times more for an advanced treatment like a root canal and crown, than you would for a filling if you have regular checkups and are able to treat the decay in the earlier stages. Ultimately a tooth that has untreated tooth decay will eventually need to be extracted. How are you going to know if you have tooth decay before this happens if you don’t see the dentist regularly?
It is recommended that you see the dentist every 6 months for a dental checkup and teeth cleaning. At your dental checkup, the dental hygienist will take x rays of your teeth that will show the dentist areas between your teeth that cannot be seen with a visual exam. Then the hygienist will clean all of the cavity causing plaque and tartar off of your teeth and give you instructions on how to most effectively prevent tooth decay between visits. The dentist will examine your teeth and feel with instruments the common areas that cavities form to make sure there aren’t any soft spots forming. If there is any tooth decay, a plan for treatment will be made and explained to you and the tooth cavities will be shown to you on the x rays or on photos.
Dental checkups are usually covered completely by dental insurance and if you do not have dental insurance, we offer an affordable in-house savings plan, that gives you 2 checkups for the price of one and also gives you significant savings on any treatments you may need. If you have not had a dental checkup this year, you should book one now. Knowing puts the power in your hands to do something about it before it is too late.
